Professor Shazia Choudhry (United Kingdom)

Professor Shazia Choudhry is Professor of Law and the Jeffrey Hackney Tutorial Fellow in Law at Wadham College, University of Oxford. She is also an Associate Academic Fellow and Academic Bencher of the Inner Temple. Her research focuses on European and UK human rights law and their intersections with criminal law and family law, with particular attention to violence against women.

Professor Choudhry has served as Specialist Adviser to several UK parliamentary committees, including the Joint Committee on Human Rights (2014–2015), the Joint Committee on the Draft Domestic Abuse Bill (2019), and the Women and Equalities Committee (2022). She has also worked as an expert evaluator for the European Commission, an expert for the Council of Europe (including as part of the GREVIO monitoring mission to Serbia), and a consultant for the United Nations Population Fund.

In 2024, she was nominated by the UK Government as its first-ever candidate for the UN Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW). Her career reflects both academic excellence and sustained engagement in advancing women’s rights and gender justice at domestic and international levels.
