Founded in 1952, the International Institute of Social Studies (ISS) is one of the world’s leading centres of higher education and research in development studies and social sciences. The ISS is part of Erasmus University Rotterdam and is based in The Hague, the ‘International City of Peace and Justice’. ISS brings together students, researchers, and practitioners who work on issues of global inequality, governance, poverty, human rights, conflict, and social justice. The research programme is characterized by its critical approach to policies that are formulated in response to social, economic and political issues in global development and social justice. Research activities are set up to have societal impact and are steered by a desire to contribute to the problem-solving capacity of communities, organizations and societies, in other words capacity development. ISS offers a four-year PhD programme, an accredited one-year MA in Development Studies and a joint MA programme in Public Policy.
ISS has a strong international community, with students and researchers from around the world. The 14,000+ ISS alumni form a strong global network of development professionals.”
