Founded in Kabul in 2014, DROPS is an independent Afghan civil society organization committed to advancing peace, justice, and equality in Afghanistan. Its mission is to foster an inclusive society by providing policymakers with evidence-based research and amplifying the voices of those most affected by conflict and repression, particularly women and girls.
DROPS works at the intersection of policy research, training, and advocacy. With a team of more than 40 Afghan professionals — researchers, surveyors, trainers, and peace facilitators — the organization engages across all 34 provinces of Afghanistan. Its approach is grounded in community-based knowledge and local partnerships, ensuring that Afghan citizens remain at the center of political, social, and economic decision-making.
The organization’s core activities include designing and implementing field research, gathering gender-segregated data, and conducting policy analysis on issues ranging from governance and security to economic participation and women’s rights. DROPS regularly publishes research papers, policy briefs, and seminar reports, and organizes trainings in research methods, critical thinking, and policy engagement. These initiatives aim to strengthen the capacity of Afghan researchers, practitioners, and policymakers alike.
Since its founding, DROPS has served as a trusted platform for dialogue, bridging grassroots realities with national and international policymaking. At a time when Afghan civil society faces unprecedented challenges, DROPS continues to defend space for independent research and advocacy, guided by the belief that sustainable peace and development can only be achieved when the rights and dignity of all Afghans — especially women and marginalized groups — are respected.
